Today was a GOOD day...

You know there are just days when you feel like you have it together. When you have 2 small kids these days are the ones you treasure and tell other people about. They don't happen often, but when they do. WOW! Today was my day.
It was really ordinary, nothing exciting until I was able to make several important phone calls to the state offices of let-me-take-your-money-for-no-good-reason-since -you-don't-live-here-anymore and i'll-make-you-wait-endlessly-on-the-line-and-never-pick-up-due-to-the-fact-that-tomarrow-
is-a-holiday-and-i-mentally-checked-out-in-early-december. Yea you know those phone calls. The ones you dread making because you are going to have to try to find the one scrap of paper after 3 moves to prove you haven't lived there in months. Not only did I manage one such call but 3 yes you heard it right 3 of them without having to excuse myself to locate my child's behavior for him.
So after the calls I packed the troops up on a mission to find a fax machine. Yes, gone are the days with a place big enough for a home office with a fax machine. So after a terribly exciting trip on a bus, a great conversation about the Redskins life-altering win ( my husband will be on cloud 9 for a week) we went for lunch via the Metro.
Nothing and I mean nothing makes my eldest Pete happier then a day with a bus or a Metro. How one short ride can give a child such joy. You just want to bottle it and share it with everyone. He get so excited he shakes his little hands as our public chariot arrives. He even manages to make the drivers and other passengers smile as he squeals with delight. I love every second of it.
Lunch was also just as successful as the phone calls. No tears, no fights and lots of pleases and thank yous later and we were off to find a new shiny book from the book store. Hey if your 3 yr old son had done as good a job as Pete did today he too would have deserved a book from the store across the street.
With book in hand we had one last treat. OK this one was more for mommy. I have wanted to see a movie for g-d knows how long. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw one in a movie theater. Well today was the day and we all went. Jack slept and nursed the whole movie away. Pete sat like an angel with his water and his new book and as for me, I watched a WHOLE movie in a theater start to finish without leaving my seat! Do you hear trumpets and angels singing? I do because it was a MIRACLE!!!!!!!!!
As we left the theater and me in my fog of euphoria we grabbed a cookie and hopped a bus home. All the ride I sat there watching my little boys charming the people around them and thought...this is going to be one amazing New Year.
Have a happy HEALTHY New Year 2008 to everyone!!!!!

The first Ramble...

Well we all have to start somewhere. I guess today is as good a day as any. Better I think. Currently I'm sitting in my little 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment in my corner of the nation's capitol. Listening to my adorable husband having a meltdown with the baby and the 3 yr old. Maybe I should rescue him. Husband that is... How is it that I can have the kids all day and manage to get things done. All it takes is one hour with them, as I ponder the day on a computer for all hell to break loose? Amazing simply amazing. OK I hear crashing, not a great sign...
